Living with Pain

I get migraines.  Only someone living with pain can understand all that is packed in that small sentence. Life doesn’t stop for pain and sometimes it feels that you’re always hurting. Even when you don’t tell people (mostly because you’re sick of it); you still wear the face of great discomfort.

I have many migraine triggers. Heat, humidity, and change in weather make the top of that list. That really bites because of the excessive heat warning we are under this week. Not to mention the thunderstorms of these past 2 weeks.

Keeping away from all other triggers is my main goal. Then the morning brings me #2 on my list – Hello Little Miss Period, is it that time already! Uuggghhhh!!!

Here I am in my room, behind closed dark curtains, keeping calm, cool and hoping to keep the pain away.

More Migraine Triggers:
  • Alcohol – I can’t drink anymore
  • Noise – loud tv, repetitive thumping
  • Smells – usually only a big deal when I’m already on my way to misery but if I’ve hit items on the list it moves things along that much quicker
  • Missing Meals – usually missing one meal doesn’t do it but forgetting to eat two in a row, I’m in trouble
  • Stress
  • Too much caffeine – I had to give up coffee years ago… still, crave it
  • Not enough caffeine
  • Too much sleep
  • Not enough sleep
  • Skipping preventative meds (not a cure just stops the everyday pain)
Are you living with chronic pain?  How do you deal with people who just don't understand?

Excessive heat (heat warning here this week too) and strong smells are my biggest triggers. I had one last weekend that literally knocked my on my butt.

Hey!
I too suffer from severe chronic common migraines. Pregnancy has been a wonderful relief from them! It's been quite amazing. I wish more people would try to understand how debilitating they can be at time. It's hard to function sometimes just to go through daily life but I've gotten good at covering up the pain most of the time. Have you been to a neurologist about yours? They might be able to help you (if you are willing to take meds) reduce the frequency and severity of them. It works for me when I'm not pregnant though it's not a cure, mostly a management thing. I wish you luck with your headaches! I know how much they really do suck.

Thanks for stopping by my blog Love & Tantrums! I'm following you back :O)

i have migraines, cluster headaches, and MS headaches.... i have a headache every.single.day since november... and there is one sure fire thing that makes them go away... in 10 minutes or less... it's not narcotics (and i have a buttload of those)...it's not aspirin or ibuprofen, or antihistamines...

it's TIGER BALM RED!

you have got to try this stuff Mona.. you must! you can buy it Walgreens, Walmart, CVS, etc...

make sure you get RED... important...

i rub it on my neck at the base of my skull... a dab near my temples and a strip across my forehead...

and somehow, someway... i call it magical mystery... my headache is gone in 10 minutes or less...

YOU MUST TRY IT!!!

@ Pam - My mom doesn't get migraines but my aunt does. My 16yo son gets frequent headaches.

@ Mama - I'm hoping to stay on my feet : )

@ Stacy - I do see a neurologist. I used to have pain EVERY day so it's gotten better.

@ Sherri - I can't believe it! We have Tiger balm. I have to look at it to see if it's "red" or if it's different. Thanks so much for the tip... I'm gonna need it.

I've never been a migraine sufferer, but I definitely understand the chronic pain. For me, a lot of times it comes down to doing whatever I can to distract myself from the pain for as long as I can. When it's bad, it seems like nothing (short of heavy narcotics - which I hate) seems to help. So I just have to try to stay busy and ignore it for as long as a can...
