The Vampire Diaries

The Vampire Dairies (on the CW, Thursdays at 8:00) just finished it's first season.  It's come a long way since that first episode let me tell you.  I was SO annoyed by the two lead actors and the worn-out storyline.

The not-so-sure-of-herself girl falls for the boy who always looks so serious and in pain.  Wait for it...Wait for it...He's a vampire (wow didn't see that one coming) and their love is forbidden...Sound familar?

The two lead actors played it so Edward & Bella.  Who could really blame them.  The Vampire Diaries seemed to be created from all the ideas Stephenie Meyer left out of her Twilight saga.  Neither Elena or Bella has both parents in their lives.  Both Edward and Stefan can walk around during the day.  The vampires have special abilities:  move fast, super hearing, hear thoughts, super strong.  Oh, and did I mention that one of the characters is a new student in school?

There were SO many similarities I was seriously waiting for the wolf to show up.  REALLY, not kidding.  Elena even wrote in her diary... like Bella!

The Vampire Diaries does have legs of it's own.  Each episode is getting better and better!  The seaon finale did not disapoint... Tyler Lockwood (played by Michael Trevino) is a VAMPIRE!  I did not see that one coming!  It was fabulous!

The actors playing the lead teens in love (Nina Dobrev &; Paul Wesley) have yet to find their groove.  That's a nice way to say... they SUCK!  When I watch them it's hard to just fall into the story.  I am so aware that I am watching actors.  The show succeeds because if the supporting (more like carring the show) actors and a storyline that is becoming more unpredictable and exciting.

I only kept watching because of Zach Roering (who plays Matt Donovan).  He played Casey Hughes on As the World Turns and I always thought he was great.  He still is.  Matt Donovan is Elena Gilbert's ex-boyfriend.  Stefan Salvatore's bad-guy brother, Damon Salvatore, is played by the extremely talanted Ian Somerhalder.  We'll be seeing him in movies along with Michael Trevino and Zach Roering for a long time.

I can't wait for the second season:
Will Tyler Lockwood find out he's a vampire?  How could he not know?
Was Tyler's dad really a vampire?  Does anyone know?
Did anyone else survive the fire?
What's going to happen to Jeremy Gilbert (played by Steven R. Mcqeen - relation?)?
Will Stefan Damon change his bad-boy ways?
Will Matt find love?

I'll guess I'll have to start reading The Vampire Diaries book series by L. J. Smith until the season primier.
